HanesBrands Sends Underwear and Activewear to Assist Hurricane Harvey Victims
HanesBrands donated more than five trailer loads of underwear and activewear apparel to assist victims of flooding from Hurricane Harvey in Texas and the Gulf Coast.
Hanes partnered with nonprofit charity Delivering Good and North Carolina-based transportation company Glen Raven Logistics to distribute the more than 1 million items of underwear, socks, intimate apparel, T-shirts and activewear fleece valued at more than $2 million to flood victims in the aftermath of the late August 2017 storm. The company also donated $25,000 to the American Red Cross to assist storm victims.
Glen Raven donated the transportation needed to get the apparel to Delivering Good, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity that will supply relief agencies in Texas and elsewhere in the path of destruction from Harvey.
“Hanes and its employees share the nation’s great concerns for the victims of Hurricane Harvey and want to help,” said Chris Fox, HanesBrands vice president of corporate social responsibility. “We know that victims of natural disasters have a great need for the basics in life, including shelter, food, water and clothing. We are happy that we can assist in the long road to recovery.”
Delivering Good (formerly K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers) serves the clothing, home and children’s industries, in distributing donated products to those in need. HanesBrands and Delivering Good will work with Children’s Hunger Fund, Operation Compassion, and Caring for Others, among other relief agencies in Texas.
“One of the biggest hurdles to helping victims of natural disasters is the logistics of getting aid and donations to those in need,” Fox said. “Delivering Good specializes in working with relief agencies to get donated products to where they are needed in an orderly and effective way. We thank Delivering Good for its assistance in this project and Glen Raven Logistics for delivering our donated products.”
