HACR Responds to Violence on Capitol Hill
Insurrection by rioters was an attack on American democracy
WASHINGTON, January 8, 2021 /3BL Media/ – The Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR) condemns the violent insurrection on January 6, 2021 in which the United States Capitol was overrun by a mob of rioters. This act of domestic terrorism, which led to the desecration of the Capitol building and the loss of five lives, including one U.S. Capitol police officer, occurred after protesters stormed the Capitol building to disrupt a joint session of Congress certifying the Electoral College vote in Capitol Hill.
“The actions by the rioters in an attempt to disrupt our democracy is appalling and unacceptable,” said Cid Wilson, president and CEO of HACR. “There is no place for violence in our country. Those who participated in the insurrection on Capitol Hill must be brought to justice and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Our democracy, including the transition of the presidency, is the bedrock of our nation.”
HACR is additionally troubled by the disparity between the treatment of rioters by law enforcement, many of whom were members of white supremacist groups, and that of last year’s Black Lives Matter protesters, who were primarily people of color.
Further, while we commend the majority of corporations who do not advertise on anti-diversity media, we suggest that all companies review whom they advertise with to ensure they are not funding media sites and platforms that promote false, prejudicial information, which contributes to the growth of hate crimes and the type of violence seen this week.
