Around Thanksgiving and Christmas, major companies’ public relations teams go into overdrive to show the world that they too, can be generous. But the ones who show their benevolence every day of the week, from January 2 to December 1–and especially in dire times—can warm your heart the most.

Here are four examples of companies lending a helping a hand after natural disasters that are worth sharing this holiday season:

1. Tide’s Loads of Hope after Colorado flooding

In September 2013, floods devastated urban areas of Colorado and forced residents to flee their homes. Tide Loads of Hope offers massive mobile laundromat services to help those who have lost the comforts of home by offering laundry services, including washing, drying and folding – all free of charge.

Founded in 2005 to help those in need of laundry services after Hurricane Katrina, the program has washed more than 58,000 loads of laundry since the program launched.

2. Verizon FiOS after Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines

After the calamitous Typhoon Haiyan that left more than 6,000 dead and over 27,000 injured in the Philippines, Verizon committed $100,000 to the American Red Cross Philippines Typhoon Appeal Fund. Verizon TV customers also received free Filipino channels—TFC/The Filipino Channel and GMA Pinoy TV—so friends and family with loved ones in the afflicted areas could have up-to-the minute coverage of the rescue efforts and other breaking developments.

Verizon and AT&T also waived charges for landline long-distance calls and wireless long-distance calls and texts to friends and family in the Philippines from November 8 through December 7.
