GRI Sustainability Training Now in Spanish
Launch of Spanish-language GRI Professional Certification Program
Following the unveiling of the new Professional Certification Program in September 2020 by Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), it is now possible for Spanish-speaking sustainability professionals to access and complete all of the courses and a final exam entirely in Spanish.
The program offers globally applicable training and professional development for individuals seeking to use the GRI Standards as a reporting tool on organizational impacts. In addition to English, it can now be accessed in Spanish through the GRI Academy. Courses can be completed online or combined with trainer-facilitated learning through GRI Certified Training Partners.
Mirjam Groten, GRI Chief Business Development Officer, said:
“GRI is committed to helping sustainability professionals around the world by providing access to high quality and globally relevant training. The GRI Standards have already been translated into 12 languages, and our next goal is to deliver the Professional Certification Program in multiple languages. Expanding the program with courses available in Spanish is an important milestone towards achieving this goal.”
What’s included in the program?
Comprised of five courses, the Professional Certification Program covers the fundamentals of GRI reporting and is followed by an online certification exam. Individuals can then obtain ‘GRI Certified Sustainability Professional’ status.
The core courses are:
- Introduction to sustainability reporting and the GRI Standards
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Materiality
- The sustainability reporting process
- Integrating the SDGs into sustainability reporting
Andrea Pradilla, Head of GRI Regional Hub Hispanic America, added:
“Interest in corporate transparency and the adoption of sustainability reporting is rapidly growing in Hispanic American countries. Therefore, providing the Professional Certification Program in Spanish means that our network can learn from the best and do it at their own pace. I look forward to seeing more colleagues and partners benefit from the opportunities to grow and develop as a GRI Certified Sustainability Professional.”

Certification can be renewed annually by completing at least eight hours of continuing education units (CEUs), which provide an update on the latest developments in sustainability reporting and the GRI Standards.
GRI research in February found that there is encouraging growth in corporate sustainability practices by listed companies and markets across five Hispanic American countries.
Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is the independent, international organization that helps businesses and other organizations take responsibility for their impacts, by providing the global common language to report those impacts – the GRI Standards.
