Greenpeace Lauds Sustainable Seafood Retailers: Whole Foods, Wegmans, Hy-Vee, Safeway, Target

The world’s ocean life is getting depleted rapidly. Nearly 90 percent of all large, predatory fish have vanished forever from the world’s oceans. According to Ocean Wise, the only solution is to turn back from the brink, and to begin consuming seafood in a sustainable manner.
Greenpeace has tracked the global fishing industry as well as seafood retailers for many years to assess the progress toward sustainable seafood. In its ninth edition of the “Carting Away the Oceans” report, Greenpeace says that significant progress has occurred since the report was launched in 2008. Many of the largest seafood retailers in the U.S. are developing robust sustainable seafood policies, increasing transparency for the consumers’ benefit, and supporting important reforms in the industry.
