Goodyear South Asia Tyres Partners with Environmentalist Foundation of India to Restore Shenpunji Lake in Aurangabad, Maharashtra
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India, March 30, 2021 /3BL Media/ - Goodyear South Asia Tyres Private Limited, as part of Goodyear’s Better Future CSR framework, is supporting community-based scientific restoration of Shenpunji Lake in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The aim of the project is to adopt, scientifically revive and ecologically restore Shenpunji Lake.
The ‘Community based scientific lake restoration project’ has been implemented by Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI) in partnership with Goodyear South Asia Tyres Private Limited from January 2020 – March 2021 to contribute towards environment protection, water conservation and enhancing biodiversity in and around Shenpunji Lake, representing an area of 19.59 acres.
As a result of the project, the water holding capacity of the lake has increased by an additional 180K cubic meters. Bund creation as well as inlet and outlet regulations were undertaken based on hydrology of the structure to safeguard the surrounding areas in the advent of floods. Also, as part of this project, 400 trees were planted with drip irrigation system to ensure their survival and G-shaped islands and mini islands were constructed for birds, frogs, snakes and other organisms to thrive which will help in protecting and enhancing biological diversity of the lake.
Community awareness activities with the local panchayat were also carried out through wall paintings and orientation programs for students at Government High School, Chikalthana. This helped in creating awareness in the community to protect the environment and create a sustainable future.
