Going Green: Make It A Family Affair!

Has your family experienced one too many nights of brawling over the Monopoly board? Have family movie nights gone as stale as the popcorn? If you’re looking for some fresh ideas on how to spend quality time together as a family, consider making “going green” a family affair!

Plan an Eco-Vacation: Eco-friendly vacations are the latest and greatest in eco-tourism. Hiking or camping just not your thing? There are a number of eco-friendly resorts where rest and relaxation, the green way, is the first priority. Conduct some research online, or ask your travel agent about popular, eco-tourism destinations.

Make the Pledge to Bike: Sit down with your kids and explain the concepts of carbon emissions, global warming and climate change. Take a pledge, as a family, to bike or walk whenever possible!

Carpool: If biking and walking aren’t feasible, as much as possible, be sure to carpool with neighborhood families and your children’s friends.

Visit your Local Farmer’s Market: Take the whole family on weekend visits to the farmer’s market, where you’ll find fresh, locally grown produce and other goodies. Not only is shopping locally a great way to reduce carbon emissions, it’s also a wonderful gesture in support of your local economy.

Cooking Lessons: Experiment in the kitchen with vegetarian, vegan or organic recipes that the whole family will love. Get your kids interested in cooking – it’s a great way to teach them about nutrition and the importance of eating clean (and green)!
