GM Commitment Is an Important Step Toward a Zero-Emissions Future
January 29, 2021 /3BL Media/ - Ceres released the following response to General Motors announcement that it would commit to the Business Ambition Pledge for 1.5 degrees Celsius, to be carbon neutral by 2040, and to comply with interim Science Based Targets for its products and operations.
Carol Lee Rawn, senior director of transportation at Ceres, said:
We are pleased to see that GM has committed to the Business Ambition Pledge for 1.5 degrees Celsius, to be carbon neutral by 2040, and importantly, to comply with interim Science Based Targets for its products and operations. It is positive that GM aspires to eliminate tailpipe emissions from all light duty vehicles by 2035; as an important complement to this, we expect to see GM support vehicle emissions standards, and ensure product sales, that are aligned with its stated goals. Rapid electrification of the transportation sector is not only necessary to meet climate goals, but will also bring significant economic and health benefits. We welcome this commitment by GM as an important step toward a zero-emissions future.
