Global Compact Network Canada to Host 2021 Making Global Goals Local Business to Mobilize Ambitious and Responsible Business Conduct in Canada
July 15, 2021 /3BL Media/ - In collaboration with the United Nations Global Compact, Global Compact Network Canada will host 2021 Making Global Goals Local Business – Canada conference virtually on October 5-6, 2021, with the theme of ‘Catalyzing a resilient future in the Decade of Action’.
While progress has been made towards the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), there remains room for further contribution and improvement. We continue to face ongoing obstacles including entrenched racial discrimination, widening gender gaps, and inadequate climate action that pose significant challenges and may hinder the action plan of the final ten years of the 2030 Agenda. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated these barriers and revealed fault lines that Canada must grapple with to prioritize resiliency and ensure a sustainable and equitable recovery. More than ever, we need collective action, inspiring role models, and increased accountability to move the dial forward and forge a better world for all.
“The Making Global Goals Local Business - Canada conference aims to discuss recovery priorities specifically for local businesses by aligning business objectives with responsible and sustainable practices,” said Ayman Chowdhury, Head of Secretariat of Global Compact Network Canada. He added, “Canadian businesses not only have an opportunity but also a responsibility to reflect on their existing practices and partnerships and establish strategies that will improve resiliency to future shocks. Through collaboration, we want to ensure sustainability remains a crucial cornerstone for Canadian businesses in this Decade of Action to achieve the SDGs.''
This two-day virtual conference will feature an engaging virtual platform where participants can hear prominent keynote addresses by sustainability and government leaders. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in panels, masterclasses, and fireside chats by subject matter experts and industry insiders expanding their knowledge on how businesses across Canada are working to operationalize sustainable practices and commitments. Peer-to-peer learning and sharing best practices will also be available to all attendees during interactive networking sessions.
Global Compact Network Canada’s previous conferences have paved the way to continue the meaningful conversation and motivate responsible business conduct to advance progress on climate action, socio-economic equality, and corporate leadership in Canada by featuring high-level speakers such as The Honorable Minister Maryam Monsef, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development, Michael Ward, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer, IKEA Canada, Theresa Jang, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Stantec and Geoffrey Pegg, Sustainability Director, TELUS, and many more.
Making Global Goals Local Business - Canada will bring together more than 200 leaders from Canadian businesses, government, civil society, NGOs, Academia, young professionals, and the United Nations, serving as a unique opportunity for a diverse range of stakeholders to showcase their sustainability initiatives and collaborate in partnership for the Global Goals.
