Ginn Academy Receives $250,000 from KeyBank Foundation for Internships, Scholarships, ACT/SAT Preparation, and Investment Club
CLEVELAND, Ohio March 7, 2016 /3BL Media/ — Today, the KeyBank Foundation awarded a $250,000 grant to Ginn Academy, the first and only all-male public high school in Ohio. The grant will support academic performance and create additional workplace experience opportunities for the students of Ginn Academy, which was established to help local urban adolescent males reach their full potential and beyond.
“By the end of the five-year grant, KeyBank will have touched the life of every student at Ginn Academy,” said Ted Ginn Sr., Executive Director of the Ginn Academy. “We are grateful to KeyBank for believing in our students and look forward to partnering with them more in the future.”
“We are proud to support a program that is focused on helping youth in Ohio achieve academic and eventual career success,” says Margot Copeland, CEO and chairman of the KeyBank Foundation. “Ginn Academy is a strong institution with a motivated student body. This grant will help their young men seize even more opportunities for success.”
The KeyBank Foundation partners with local organizations to help communities thrive, through investments in academic and workforce development programs, and through community service. This latest grant will be provided to Ginn Academy over the course of five years, starting in 2016. Through the grant, the expectation is that every student will benefit from the KeyBank Scholars Program. The program is designed to help students increase their ACT/ SAT college entrance exam scores, secure internships with local employers, gain financial wellness and investment skills and recognize student achievement and need through gap scholarships. The ultimate goal is to increase graduation, college acceptance and college enrollment rates for the students.
The mission of Ginn Academy, founded in 2007, is to develop exemplary students by assisting them in recognizing their genius, self-worth and full potential. Currently, there are 400 students enrolled at the Academy, with a promotion rate of more than 90 percent.
While the core curriculum taught at the Academy is in line with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, the Academy provides unique resources for their scholars. Each student has his own mentor, who serves as an on-call life coach for the student 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Additionally, each student has an individual life plan. School days at the Academy begin with a morning session during which students are encouraged and acknowledged.
Of the Ginn Academy’s most recent senior class (2014-2015), 95 percent of the students graduated. Within those graduates, 85 percent pursued a post-secondary education, 10 percent entered the workforce and five percent enlisted in the military. The Ginn Academy KeyBank Scholars program addresses student needs and helps students advance academically while obtaining workplace and life skills.
