One of the most effective ways to inspire girls to pursue a STEM education and careers is to introduce them to professionals in the field
Get-it Girls Go Hands-on with Technology
A partnership between North American automaker FCA US LLC and the Michigan Council of Women in Technology Foundation (MCWT) is making sure that young women ‘GET-IT’, which stands for Girls Exploring Together Information Technology, an after-school team activity designed to encourage young girls to consider and ultimately pursue a career in information technology.
Recently, 75 girls from five Detroit-area middle schools visited the FCA US Information & Communication Technology building in Auburn Hills, to explore augmented reality, CAN-bus networking, UConnect® and other technologies, as well as meet the professionals responsible for implementing them.
Students involved in the GET-IT Girls program receive hands-on exposure to technology, while also enhancing their math and science skills, and confidence. The program, which runs from September through the end of the school year, also helps prepare the students for college, strengthening their teamwork, problem-solving and organization abilities.
