GE Partners with Port of Rotterdam Climate Initiative
GE in Benelux Partnering with ports
As one of the largest ports in Europe, it is crucial for Rotterdam to work at reducing its CO2 emissions. In this effort and in line with the EU ambitious environmental targets, the port has set up the Rotterdam Climate Initiative, which includes the aggressive target of cutting by half CO2 emissions by 2025. GE supports this initiative and has recently signed their Sustainability Charter.
GE is teaming with the port, the city and local companies, to forge and further partnerships as well as bring innovation and technology to help solve Rotterdam’s challenges.
In that light, GE signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the port, in February 2010, focused on deploying GE’s ecomagination technologies to reduce emissions, increase energy efficiency and improve water management. The first action of the MOU involved creating a smart grid pilot project in the port at the Distripark of the Maasvlakte.
