Freeport-McMoRan’s PT Freeport Indonesia Partnership Fund Wins 12 Awards for Millennium Development Goals

April 21, 2015 /3BL Media/ - PT Freeport-Indonesia’s Partnership Fund for Community Development (LPMAK) won 12 awards from the Government of Indonesia for its accomplishments in health, environmental and education programs. Most of the awards presented were for LPMAK’s work toward Millennium Development Goals.

Categories that received the accolades include:

  • Clean water and environmental sanitation

  • Education for children in isolated regions 

  • Prevention of malaria, HIV/AIDS, TB and other contagious diseases

  • Health services for expectant mothers and childbirth

  • Health services for children under age 5

In 1996, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) established the Freeport Partnership Fund for Community Development (the ‘Partnership Fund’), through which PTFI has made available funding and technical assistance to support the economic, health, education and social development for the indigenous Papuan community. Through the Partnership Fund, PTFI has committed to provide one percent of its annual revenue for the development of the local community.

Contributions to the Partnership Fund in 2013 totaled $23.7 million. The Amungme and Kamoro Community Development Organization (LPMAK) is the local Papuan community organization that oversees disbursement of the program funds. LPMAK is governed by a board of commissioners and a board of directors, which are comprised of representatives from the local Amungme and Kamoro tribal communities, local government, church and other community leaders, and one representative of PTFI on each board. Since 1996, PTFI has contributed over $550 million to the Partnership Fund.
