Freeport-McMoRan Releases 2014 Working Toward Sustainable Development Report “Value at Our Core”

As population growth and urbanization continue to accelerate, Freeport-McMoRan’s products are critical to a rising standard of living on a global scale. The foundation of Freeport-McMoRan’s plans for production growth and resource expansion is their commitment to join with stakeholders in working toward sustainable development.

The Freeport-McMoRan 2014 Working Toward Sustainable Development reports describes the daily progress that Freeport-McMoRan’s workforce is making toward safe production, addressing long-term needs in local communities, mitigating potential environmental impacts, and delivering products with critically important societal benefits.  The report and additional information, including specific topical reports, performance data and sustainability news stories can be accessed at fcx.com.

Highlights from the annual Working Toward Sustainable Development report include:

  • Regional technical training programs prepare community members for careers in mining. The Nemagkawi Mining Institute in Papua, Indonesia, has placed over 2,300 apprentices into permanent positions to date at Freeport-McMoRan operations.

  • Freeport-McMoRan’s Native American Scholarship program awarded 36 college scholarships to members of the Hualapai, San Carlos Apache, Tohono O’odham and White Mountain Apache tribes during 2014.

  • $7.8 million was invested into the community health programs in Indonesia by PT Freeport Indonesia, a Freeport-McMoRan company.
