The Boys & Girls Clubs of America, a national nonprofit providing after-school programs and summer camps for young people of all ages, hosted its annual Great Futures Gala in Los Angeles on November 5th, honoring FOX Sports with the Champion of Youth Award. FOX Sports announcers Joe Buck and Erin Andrews emceed the event, and Eric Shanks (left), President, COO, and Executive Producer of FOX Sports, accepted the award from BGCA Board member Michael Tennenbaum (right).
At the corporate level, FOX Sports' relationship with the Boys & Girls Clubs began in 2008, when the company's charitable initiative FOX Sports Supports first developed a national PSA campaign for the organization. However, local FOX Sports stations have been involved with BGCA for much longer.
FOX Sports Arizona has been a partner since 2005, supporting 13 clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix and helping fund a youth basketball league that has nearly 1,000 participants. FOX Sports Detroit annually contributes an average of $100,000 to their local club, and FOX Sports North helped found the "Hometown Team Scholarship," which annually awards one BGCA member a 4-year academic scholarship.
Eric Shanks has served as BGCA National Trustee since 2007 and was inducted in to the Boys & Girls Clubs Alumni Hall of Fame this year. He has been instrumental in securing significant financial support for the organization and devoting the company's valuable media assets toward bringing greater awareness to the Clubs and their work.
