“Field Cast” and “City Cast” Uniforms for Tokyo 2020 Staff and Volunteers Unveiled
Stylish, sustainable and suitable to wear come rain or shine – it’s time for a first look at the tokyo 2020 uniforms.
International Olympic Committee news
The Tokyo Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games today unveiled the official outfits that will be worn by the Field Cast and City Cast staff and volunteers. This is the “cast” of people – more than 110,000 of them – who will welcome and provide support to spectators, athletes and other visitors during the Games.
The two styles of blue-and-white shirts will be a ubiquitous sight in Tokyo next summer, and they’ve been made with the environment – and the comfort of the wearer – in mind.
Comfort and Sustainability
The uniforms are cool, in both senses of the word, with breathable material that counters the heat. They are also water-absorbent and quick-drying for when it’s wet, and have detachable trousers that can be turned into shorts when the temperature rises. Sustainability is another top priority. The uniforms are made using recycled polyester and plant material. Meanwhile, the uniform shoes have been coloured using a special dyeing process which uses a minimum amount of water.
The City Cast uniform features a striking interpretation of the chequered Tokyo 2020 emblem. Its dark blue-and-white patterns will allow the City Cast volunteers to be easily identified by tourists and other visitors on Tokyo’s streets. The chequered emblem also features on the Field Cast uniform. With its subtly overlapping shades of Tokyo 2020’s signature motifs and colours, this is the outfit that will be worn by volunteers in and around the Games venues.
Uniform Unity
In line with the Tokyo 2020 theme of “unity in diversity”, the uniform has a unisex design that will allow staff and volunteers of all ages, sizes and physical conditions to wear it comfortably.
And while the City and Field uniforms are different, their similarities are designed to demonstrate the unity between all the staff and volunteers who will be working at the Games. The uniform and its accessories – including hats, bags, jackets, shoes and socks – have been designed and produced in association with the Tokyo 2020 official sportswear provider, ASICS Corporation.
