FedEx wins Boston College 2012 Corporate Citizenship Film Festival
Video tells story of company’s support for Orbis Flying Eye Hospital in developing countries
(3BL Media) Phoenix, AZ - March 27, 2012 -The Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship announced the winner of the 2012 Corporate Citizenship Film Festival Monday night. While only one entry can take top honors, the field of 67 entries offered evidence that many companies have discovered how they can successfully use video as a communication tool to spread word of their corporate citizenship efforts around the corner and around the world. In the fourth year of the annual festival, submissions covered a wide range of issues including health and wellness, education, economic development and protection of the environment, among others.
The winning video tells the story of the partnership between FedEx and Orbis, the world’s only airborne eye training and surgical center. FedEx delivers medical supplies at no charge to Orbis clinics all over the world and has donated an MD-10-30 to Orbis that’s going to become the next generation Flying Eye Hospital.
“We know from research that companies that communicate proactively about their corporate citizenship commitment see a positive benefit from telling their own story. Video is one of today’s most powerful communications tool, as we see demonstrated over and over again in the videos submitted for the festival. FedEx does a wonderful job capturing the transformative impact of its Orbis partnership, not only to the people who are served directly but also to its employees, in an emotional and poignant video,” said Katherine V. Smith, Executive Director, Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship.
A panel of seven judges selected the winner after more than 60,000 votes were cast online to choose 10 finalists. Joining FedEx as finalists this year were:
- Bright Horizons Family Solutions
- Caterpillar
- CSX
- Cummins Inc.
- Dow Chemical
- HP
- Humana Inc.
- Mary Kay Inc.
- UST Global
All 67 entries in this year’s competition are available for viewing on the Film Festival page of the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship website.
