Enhancing Mobility in a Congested World
Enhancing Mobility in a Congested World
Last week, Maven Gig launched in Austin, a city ranked at the top of best cities lists with accolades such as “Greenest City in America,” and rated as one of the Best Cities for Recent College Grads. The Austin launch marked the first all-electric fleet for Gig, utilizing the Chevrolet Bolt EV as the sole vehicle offered. Through the platform, Austin residents now have access to vehicles on-demand for a weekly flat rate that includes the car, unlimited miles, insurance (minus deductibles) and maintenance.
“Maven is collaborating with Austin Mayor Steve Adler and Austin Energy to reimagine the future of transportation with an emphasis on sustainability,” said Julia Steyn, vice president, General Motors Urban Mobility and Maven. “Austin is a perfect partner for Maven to offer 20 Chevy Bolt EVs because of the city’s commitment to innovation and its tech-forward culture.”
This is another example of how General Motors continues to innovate to provide sustainable mobility solutions that meet different consumer needs, while taking steps to realize its vision for a future with zero congestion. Maven Gig gives access to new vehicles for those participating in the freelance economy, who may not have the luxury of purchasing a vehicle outright. The service enables members to utilize ridesharing or on-demand delivery services as their primary way of income.
As part of its collaboration with the city, Maven is working with Austin Energy, the Austin Transportation Department and the Rocky Mountain Institute to create infrastructure solutions leading to an all-electric future. Together, they will not only provide charging for Maven Gig drivers for a limited time, but also help map a future EV infrastructure of Plug-In EVerywhere and EVgo networks everyone will be able to use.
Since February 2017, Maven Gig members have driven more than 6.5 million all-electric miles, saving an estimated 250,000 gallons of gas. This expansion will make it easier for Austinites, including students and musicians, to earn money with freedom and flexibility while helping General Motors prepare for an all-electric future.
Maven Gig vehicles are currently available in the app for reservation in Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
