The Energy Co-op's EcoChoice100 Renewable Energy Option Now Green-e Certified
SAN FRANCISCO, January 17, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) today announced that the Philadelphia, PA–based Energy Co-op’s 100 percent renewable energy option EcoChoice100 is Green-e® Energy certified. EcoChoice100 sources from solar and wind based in Pennsylvania as part of the ChoosePAWind initiative, and is available to customers in the state. The Energy Co-op is a nonprofit, member-owned cooperative that joins the growing network of renewable energy providers that offer products certified by Green-e Energy, North America’s leading certification and verification program for renewable energy.
"By signing up for EcoChoice100, individuals and organizations can support local renewable energy that meets the highest standards," said Alex Pennock, Manager of Green-e Energy. "We’re excited to welcome The Energy Co-op and pleased that Pennsylvania residents have even more clean energy options to choose from.”
The Energy Co-op’s EcoChoice100 is available to members in southeastern Pennsylvania, and sources from 99% Pennsylvania wind power and 1% Pennsylvania solar power, which includes energy generated on the rooftops of its own members. The Energy Co-op helped launch the ChoosePAWind initiative in 2011, which encourages electricity consumers in the state to power their businesses and homes with energy from local wind farms. Its customers will support currently available renewable resources and growth of the program will aid in the development of new renewable resources in the region.
“As a member-owned cooperative, we pay especially careful attention to ensuring that our member’s receive exactly what they believe they’re purchasing,” said Alex Fuller-Young, Electricity Program Manager for The Energy Co-op. “However, we became Green-e certified not only to provide further assurance to our members, but also to support an initiative that is improving overall transparency in the marketplace.”
Green-e Energy is the leading renewable energy certification and verification program in North America, with nearly 300 participating vendors selling over 30 million megawatt hours of renewable electricity and renewable energy certificates in retail transactions in 2011. The program provides independent, third-party certification to ensure that certified renewable energy meets strict environmental and consumer-protection standards.
Providers of Green-e Energy certified renewable energy agree to abide by the Green-e Energy Code of Conduct, and meet strict disclosure and truth-in-advertising requirements. All marketers of Green-e Energy certified products undergo an annual third-party verification audit to document that the company purchased or generated enough quantity and type of renewable energy to meet customer demand and marketing claims.
