Elsevier Journal Surgery Publishes Research from Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program

Philadelphia, PA, May 19, 2014 /3BL Media/ – Elsevier journal Surgery has announced that its May 2014 issue includes a special section dedicated to publishing research by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program alumni. The section is titled: “Transforming Surgical and Interventional Care–Insights from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program.” The Guest Editors for this special section are: Marcia M. Russell, MD and John L. Gore, MD, MS.  David A. Axelrod, MD and Jennifer Waljee, MD, MPH, MS are the Associate Guest Editors.

Since 1937, Surgery has been one of the leading journals covering general surgery and includes both basic science topics and clinically-oriented research. Each issue features peer-reviewed original scientific contributions and clinical reports. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program is a collaboration of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The goal of the program is to integrate scholars’ clinical expertise with training in program development and research methods, to help them find solutions for the challenges posed by the U.S. health care system and the health of U.S. communities. By including papers from the program in this issue of Surgery, the journal is promoting research from tomorrow’s surgical leaders at the beginning stages of their careers.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program has fostered the development of physicians who are leading the transformation of U.S. health and health care through positions in academic medicine, public health, and other leadership roles.
