EcoWatch goes National

Yesterday EcoWatch held a press conference to launch their publication nationwide at the Cleveland Rowing Foundation. Although it was a rainy, chilly day, people came out in support of founder Stefanie Spear and her continued efforts to take the grassroots environmental movement to the masses.

Opening remarks were made by Mayor Frank Jackson, Councilman Joe Cimperman, John Mitterholzer of the George Gund Foundation and Nelson Beckford of the Cleveland Foundation. The keynote was Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., founder and president of Waterkeeper Alliance. He is also on the EcoWatch Advisory Board and keeps busy as Senior Attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council, Chief Prosecuting Attorney for the Hudson Riverkeeper, Clinical Professor and Supervising Attorney at Pace University School of Law’s Environmental Litigation Clinic and co-host of Ring of Fire on Air America Radio.   Mr. Kennedy cited many current events and news items that are affecting not only our environment, but our society as a whole. He specifically focused on water, and had this to say prior to his speech: “The current assault on America’s environmental laws, like the Clean Water Act, creates a pressing need to educate and engage people to protect our infrastructure, the air we breathe, the water we drink, to provide our children the same opportunities for dignity and enrichment as our parents gave us.
