eBay, Kindle, Skype, Google Maps Among Most Sustainable Mobile Apps

The near-universal popularity of smartphones and a wide range of innovative mobile apps have given rise to the possibility of leveraging them to improve sustainability. Consumers should know which of the current apps support a low carbon, resource efficient, and more sustainable way of living in order to make informed choices. WSP Group, a British consultancy firm, has brought out a White Paper called “Apps for the Environment,” which evaluates mobile apps that enable the mainstreaming of greener living.

The White Paper has identified a list of top 20 smartphone apps that are role models for the sustainable sharing global society. It chose popular apps that support a greener lifestyle while living in a positive, can-do environment with higher standards of living. These apps do not tell consumers to stop doing things. They are not complicated or hard to use. Consumers as well as app developers can take note of the incidental push to sustainability that these apps provide.
