EarthxTV World Oceans Week Programming Showcases Films, Talks, Conservation and Activism

June 7, 2021 /3BL Media/ - EarthxTV has prepared a full lineup of events for World Oceans Week. From June 7th through June 12th, EarthX will celebrate our oceans and their wildlife with content such as the Oceanic Global Short Film Festival, new original TV series, the Capitol Hill Ocean Week (CHOW) conference and a virtual dive into the waters of Palau.

Honoring this year’s United Nations World Oceans Day theme of ocean life and livelihoods, EarthxTV content will feature the beauty and significance of marine life, from mangroves to sharks, EarthxLatin’s work supporting a fishing community, as well as a novel conservation approach that builds pride in local fish.

World Oceans Week EarthxTV Programming | EarthX’s World Oceans Week series lineup will include the first episode of Forces for Nature with Ben Lecompte. Lecomte is no stranger to our oceans. He swam the Atlantic ocean in 1998, and twenty years later, he braved the water again. This time swimming the Pacific in order to raise awareness for ocean health. Viewers will also enjoy replays of classic ocean-related EarthxTV content throughout the week.

EarthxTV welcomes Andrew Lewin’s live Speak Up for Blue podcast, presenting new episodes featuring organizations making a difference, such as the Blue Nature Alliance, working locally for global environmental protection; Wildcoast, combating climate change by restoring mangroves; and Rare, conserving oceans by strengthening local buy-in.

Viewers can then dive into the deep from their own homes with Erika Woolsey, CEO and co-founder of The Hydrous, on June 7th at 7pm CT. Participants will embark on a synchronized virtual dive into the waters of Palau.

Aligned with the human side of this year’s UN World Oceans Day theme, EarthX will show two summits to provoke action and inspire audiences. The replays of the 2020 CHOW virtual conference, and Ultramarine Ocean Action Summit will again inspire ‘doers’ in various fields to bring their skills to ocean conservation, thus diversifying the capabilities represented in the fight to protect our waters.

EarthxFilm will show films daily, beginning at 7pm CT, starting on Oceans Day itself, with Blue Calling and Playing with Sharks. Other screenings will include The Wild, with Mark Titus; Entangled, with director David Abel; and the Patagonia favorite, Fishpeople. Along with daily documentaries, EarthxFilm will screen the 2021 Oceanic Global Short Film Festival.

EarthxLatin Encourages Ocean Health in Oaxaca | Outside of EarthxTV programming, EarthX has been doing work in coastal areas, notably, in San Carlos Sonora, well known as one of the most beautiful and conserved beaches in the Sea of Cortez where EarthxLatin and Bodai Org have joined together to start the first permanent program of constant beach clean ups and the installation of eco bamboo ashtrays. The installation started in “La Manga,” the local fishing community established more than 50 years ago, where they will be supporting environmental education efforts and helping the fishing community with its organic waste problem. EarthxLatin is leading the education program for students in Oaxaca in partnership with CICLICA - starting with 160 students - who will be educated using the first environmental curriculum program to be taught in Mexico to over 3,000 students countrywide.
