Domestic Violence Survivors Receive Access to More Than $1 million in Financial Empowerment Services
The Allstate Foundation's Financial Empowerment Grant program addresses unique financial challenges faced by survivors
October 29, 2012 /3BL Media/ - The Allstate Foundation announced more than $1 million in financial empowerment grants to state domestic violence coalitions today as a part of the Moving Ahead Financial Empowerment Grant Program. The grant program, a joint effort between The Allstate Foundation and National Network to End Domestic Violence, aims to reach an estimated 30,000 domestic violence survivors and supports statewide domestic violence coalitions that provide innovative financial empowerment services.
"Domestic violence survivors are often faced with the difficult decision -- stay in a violent relationship or face extreme financial hardship," said Vicky Dinges, vice president for public social responsibility with Allstate. "Access to financial resources is the number one indicator of whether survivors break free and stay free from an abusive relationship. We hope these grants provide a long-term solution that helps domestic violence survivors move from safety to security."
The Moving Ahead Financial Empowerment Grant program supports a variety of services aimed at creating collaborative efforts between the state domestic violence coalitions, local programs and community partners that build state-wide capacity to respond to survivor's complex financial needs. The grants support financial education, job readiness and training, individual development accounts and match-savings, micro-loan programs.
