Silver Spring, Md., November 5, 2013 /3BL Media/ – On Thursday, November 7 and Friday, November 8, Discovery Communications will host the company’s fourth annual skills-based pro bono initiative, Discovery Impact: Creating Change, held at Discovery’s global headquarters in Silver Spring, MD. Creating Change fosters a commitment to the community by donating Discovery’s most valuable resources, its talented employees, during a 12-hour creative marathon and conference. Employees will donate their talents in a variety of areas such as marketing, communications, creative design services, human resources, IT and video production, to help the organizations achieve their missions and goals.
This year, employees will complete projects for nearly 20 nonprofit organizations serving a number of community needs such as, veterans, poverty, minority and youth education, STEM and animal welfare. In order to address the needs of the over 80 organizations that applied for the marathon event, Discovery will once again hold a conference running concurrently to the marathon event on November 7. Every organization that applied to Creating Change will be invited to attend and hear from business leaders on relevant and timely topics to help them better navigate their competitive landscape. The conference will include sessions on social media, market research, branding, media training and creativity. Conference attendees are invited to a sneak peek screening of Science Channel’s THE CHALLENGER DISASTER which airs Saturday, November 16 at 9PM EST on both Science and Discovery Channel.
“Creating Change harnesses Discovery’s greatest assets, our talented, creative employees to help nonprofit organizations with their marketing and communications needs,” said David Leavy, Chief Communications Officer and Senior Executive Vice President, Corporate Marketing and Affairs. “One of our long-standing corporate values is giving back to the communities where we live and work. This program not only underscores this dedication, but provides an outlet for our passionate employees to exercise their creative muscles on behalf of nonprofits.”
