(3BL Media) Silver Spring, MD - September 14, 2012 - Discovery Communications today announced the call for applications for its third annual Discovery Impact: Creating Change pro bono initiative. On November 15th, selected nonprofit organizations will be matched with teams of Discovery employees during a 12-hour creative marathon and conference. Creating Change forges a commitment to the community by donating Discovery’s most valuable resources, its talented employees. Discovery employees will volunteer their talents and skills to nonprofits in need of marketing, communications, creative and business services.

This year Discovery is excited to announce Creating Change’s expansion both at home and abroad with the London office hosting their first-ever Creating Change event concurrently with the Silver Spring event. Additionally, the scope of services will expand in Silver Spring by adding a Discover Your Skills component to the conference offerings.  The Discover Your Skills conference curriculum will train the organizations with tools and resources to better serve their clients’ needs, which include a mix of resume building, public speaking, and networking sessions.

Last year's event featured over 200 employees working on campaigns for 40 nonprofits, including promotional materials, press kits, videos, marketing and events strategies and social media campaigns. This year's event will allow nonprofit organizations to continue to apply for the same myriad services. Additionally, selected nonprofits will be invited to participate in courses, workshops, and client services sessions hosted by Discovery executives during the marathon event.

“Creating Change harnesses the creativity, strategic thinking and generous spirit of Discovery to help local nonprofit organizations with their marketing and communications needs,” said David Leavy, Chief Communications Officer, Discovery Communications. “Discovery’s greatest assets are our talented, creative employees who are passionate about supporting the community where they work and live. This initiative is another great example of that continued commitment.”

Creating Change builds upon Discover Your Impact Day, a global employee day of service launched in June 2010, when Discovery celebrated its 25th anniversary. Discovery is committed to continuing these valuable programs that allow employees to honor the company’s founder John Hendricks’ original vision to make a difference by giving back to the source of Discovery’s greatest stories and most stunning images for the past 27 years – the world.
