Deloitte’s Maximum Impact: Alternative Spring Break
Deloitte National Director of Community Development Evan Hochberg talks about making a 'Maximum Impact' within the greater community
Deloitte’s Maximum Impact: Alternative Spring Break
“And what is your commitment to community?”
College students ask this question all the time of the companies for which they’re considering working. Students recognize that it’s not enough to achieve their own career successes – they’re also invested in ensuring the advancement of others.
Here at Deloitte, we feel the same way. Community Involvement is central to our values, our culture, and our business strategy. It’s not an add-on or a bonus item. It’s part of how we do business.
One of the greatest ways we introduce our ethos to students is our Maximum Impact: Alternative Spring Break program. The program allows potential recruits to introduce themselves to us, too. Each year, we bring dozens of college-goers to communities in need where they volunteer their time and talent, working alongside Deloitte people so they get to know our values and get to support causes they care about. This past year saw a record 1,599 applications for just 88 spots, which is an unbelievable 18:1 ratio. Clearly, the opportunity to volunteer resonates.
Deloitte’s investment in community involvement enables us to find recruits who share our belief in service, who have high potential to be future business leaders, and to thrive in our organization. We will hire 6,500 full-time employees and interns from about 400 U.S. campuses, making us one of the largest campus employers in the United States.
We’re excited by all of the growth we see at Deloitte, and by the interest in our community involvement and pro bono activities. And we’re delighted that, when students ask us, “What do you do for others?” we have so much to say.
