Deloitte Makes Community Service a Business Imperative on 14th Annual IMPACT Day
Annual day of service in 80 U.S. communities celebrates Deloitte's year-round Impact Imperative
NEW YORK, June 7, 2013 /3BL Media/ -- In celebration of Deloitte's enduring commitment to building stronger communities, the organization and its professionals will make nonprofits their top clients during its 14th annual IMPACT Day today. The annual day of service is a cornerstone of Deloitte's Impact Imperative, the organization's corporate culture of professionals who contribute their time, innovative thinking and specialized business acumen to help nonprofits advance their missions.
As a leading employer of top business talent, Deloitte encourages its professionals to serve as critical problem solvers and contributors to communities nationwide, setting aside office duties for IMPACT Day. Volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in more than 800 volunteer events in 80 U.S. communities. IMPACT Day projects will involve both skills-based and traditional "hands-on" events, including veteran support and education-focused projects, leadership development programs for nonprofit leaders and community improvement projects.
Deloitte's Impact Imperative builds on the organization's long-standing commitment to community with a sharper focus on doing what Deloitte does best — tapping into the skills and talents of its people to help organizations design solutions. Deloitte views its people as catalysts -- the true accelerators of social change -- and recognizes they are critical to the outcomes it aims to achieve and helping organizations advance their missions.
"At Deloitte, we pride ourselves on providing high-value, quality services to our clients and the capital markets, and we apply this same approach to service within our communities. As we've seen lately, when the private and public sectors collaborate, we can make a real and lasting impact," said Joe Echevarria, chief executive officer, Deloitte LLP. "Our annual IMPACT Day is just one way our commitment to service extends beyond business and into the community. At its core, IMPACT Day is about making our communities and our country stronger."
What's New for IMPACT Day 2013
- Improving College Enrollment and Readiness: In Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Chicago and Boston, Deloitte volunteers will help students prepare and make the transition from high school to college. More than 150 volunteers will work with scholars from The Posse Foundation, who are outstanding leaders from urban communities and will receive full scholarships to college. As they prepare to leave for college, Posse Foundation scholars will hear Deloitte professionals relate their experiences on what to expect while away at school, how to stay focused and how to prepare for success in school and their future careers.
- Helping Veterans: Events across the country will benefit veterans. In Washington, D.C., volunteers at the National Veterans Center will participate in training programs to help veterans further develop computer and job interview skills as they transition from military life to a civilian career. In Los Angeles, Deloitte will collaborate with USC's Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans & Military Families to help leaders of veteran-focused nonprofits better serve theLos Angeles area.
- Getting Social: Deloitte's executives will take over its homepage on IMPACT Day, sharing information about their community involvement activities as well as how supporting nonprofits helps make America stronger. All personnel will also be provided with a unique IMPACT day logo they can use as a social media profile picture to show solidarity in support of Deloitte's community involvement initiatives.
Deloitte continues to support nonprofit leaders via the Deloitte Center for Leadership and Community (DCLC) workshops. The DCLC is a year-round, skills-based approach that convenes nonprofit leaders to network and gain insights from Deloitte leaders on critical topics that affect their operations like strategy, talent development, social media and governance.
On IMPACT Day, Deloitte will host a DCLC workshop for more than 70 nonprofit executives in Dallas to discuss strategic planning, budgeting and project management. In Chicago, nonprofit leaders from the Chicago Alliance for Collaborative Effort (CACE) will join Deloitte facilitators in the Client Experience Lab, an interactive environment Deloitte uses to help clients address business issues. The group will brainstorm ideas and develop strategic plans for recruiting and retaining top Gen Y talent. Many DCLC sessions held on IMPACT Day will build on pro bono support Deloitte provided to nonprofits during the past year.
"We must contribute what we do best for our clients to help community organizations advance their missions. We know that one business can make a difference when what it does best is aligned to the greatest need," said Evan Hochberg, national leader of Deloitte's corporate citizenship programs, Deloitte Services LP. "Through our Impact Imperative, we want to help community organizations find solutions to tough community issues."
