Deloitte Announces 'Team Deloitte,' Its Roster of U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Veterans and Hopefuls

NEW YORK, Nov. 16, 2015 /3BL Media/ — Deloitte is proud to announce its sponsorship of 15 U.S. athletes on their journey to the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Whether it be overcoming adversity, leading their teammates, gaining a new perspective, or defying the odds, each athlete demonstrates values that resonate at Deloitte, including leadership, confidence, purpose, and dedication to making an impact that matters.

The athletes themselves have felt the impact of Deloitte's sponsorship in their training and personal lives. "Sponsorship allows me to have everything I need to train for the Olympic Games," said Deloitte-sponsored athlete and Olympic gold medalist David Boudia. "Deloitte's support has helped build an environment where a champion can be made—and it is even more essential now that I have a growing family, including my wife and our one-year-old daughter."

Without sponsorships, many athletes find it difficult to balance training and competition with work. “Before having the support of sponsors, it truly took a team effort to cover training and travel costs," said Paralympic gold medalist Mallory Weggemann. "The support of sponsors has allowed me to pursue my dreams in the pool and given longevity to my career as an athlete."

On the road to Rio, Team Deloitte includes:

David Boudia (U.S. Olympian, Diving): A two-time Olympian, 18-time national champion, and defending gold medalist in the 10-meter platform who knows the value of well-being and balance. 

Marlen Esparza (U.S. Olympian, Boxing): The youngest woman to win the national championship and the first U.S. woman to qualify for Olympic boxing when it opened to women for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Laura Graves (U.S. Olympic hopeful, Dressage): An Olympic hopeful who has been working for more than a decade to share the podium with a special teammate—her horse Diddy.

April Holmes (U.S. Paralympian, Track and Field): A three-time Paralympic track and field medalist who knows making greatness a habit is achieved through perseverance.

Jonathan Horton (U.S. Olympian, Gymnastics): A two-time Olympian and gymnastics team leader who earned a silver medal for horizontal bars and a bronze team medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Madison Hughes (U.S. Olympic hopeful, Rugby): The youngest member and captain of the U.S. Eagles sevens squad, a team that hopes to win the first Olympic rugby competition since 1924.

Cullen Jones (U.S. Olympian, Swimming): A two-time Olympian and four-time medalist with a passion for encouraging children to learn to swim.

Sam Kavanagh (U.S. Paralympian, Para-cycling): A Paralympic cycling bronze medalist with the grit of a true champion.

Gerek Meinhardt (U.S. Olympian, Fencing): A decorated foil fencer and Deloitte practitioner who became the youngest U.S. fencer in Olympic history when he competed in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Alana Nichols (U.S. Paralympic hopeful, Paracanoe): The first female American athlete to win gold in both the summer and the winter Paralympic Games—and she intends to medal in a third sport, paracanoe, debuting in Rio.

Brad Snyder (U.S. Paralympian, Swimming): A blind swimmer and U.S. Navy veteran who trounced the competition at his first Paralympic Games in London, taking home two golds and a silver.

Melissa Stockwell (U.S. Paralympic hopeful, Paratriathlon): A U.S. Army veteran and swimmer-turned-triathlete who intends to complement her 2010, 2011, and 2012 world championship medals with a gold in Rio.

Abby Wambach (U.S. Olympian, Soccer): A two-time Olympic gold medalist and longtime heart of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team, the reigning World Cup champions.

Mallory Weggemann (U.S. Paralympian, Swimming): A Paralympic gold and bronze medalist with a penchant for overcoming adversity and breaking world records.

Jamie Whitmore (U.S. Paralympic hopeful, Para-cycling): The most successful female athlete in the history of XTERRA off-road triathlons and a medalist in three straight UCI Para-cycling world championships.
