Deckers Highlights Partnership With HERproject This International Women's Day
Women make up the majority of factory workers in the footwear and apparel sector, so we partnered with HERproject, in 2016, to bring increased well-being, confidence, and economic potential to the women and men on our supply chain.
HERproject is a collaborative initiative through the Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) that strives to empower low-income women working in global supply chains. To date, Deckers Brands has empowered over 45,000 female workers and 17,000 male workers and are nearly halfway towards our goal of empowering 100,000 women globally by 2027.
The program provides workers with access to knowledge and enables them to positively impact their local communities for the long term. Trainings include HERhealth (family planning, female health, etc.), HERfinance (access to financial resources, financial inclusion), HERrespect (gender equality and tackling violence against women) and its newest course HERmanagement (inspiring the next generation of female leaders).
“We are proud to be long term partners of the HERproject. Witnessing the program firsthand, seeing how it is truly making a difference, was overwhelmingly powerful. The program goes beyond training just those physically present. You train one woman, and she shares that information with her children, her peers, her neighbors, etc. It creates a true domino effect,” says Brooke Beshai, Senior Director of Sustainability and Compliance at Deckers.
