CSX Honors Service on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
CSX observes Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a National Day of Service, when many employees dedicate their personal time to volunteer.
This past Monday, some CSX employees joined a service event at Jean Ribault High School in Jacksonville in conjunction with CSX’s national partner, City Year. Together, volunteers painted a mural highlighting a city skyline along with values of both City Year and Martin Luther King, Jr., such as honesty and respect.
“Participating in community service and volunteering on this day starts the year off in a positive way and inspires me to serve others throughout the year,” said Christionna Griffin, Manager of Revenue Services at CSX and current co-leader of the company’s African American Inclusion Group.
The CSX employees serving Jean Ribault High School also joined volunteers from many local companies who organized textbooks, painted benches, prepared testing kits, and completed more murals. Together, more than 200 volunteers gave their time back to improve the school.
“National service is a common experience that brings people together from all walks of life, and perhaps more than ever before, our country needs more unity and collaboration,” said Dan Foley, Executive Director of City Year Jacksonville.
Consistent with Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, CSX fosters an open and collaborative culture in which employees of all backgrounds are encouraged to develop their capabilities in service to customers, colleagues and members of the community.
