CSX CEO Announces Major Employee Support Action Following Hurricane Matthew
Encourages Employees to Match Donation and Support for Colleagues Impacted by the Storm
Railroaders are often among the first to mobilize in response to a disaster, as the rail network provides a lifeline to affected communities. In the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, CSX employees have gone back to work quickly with enhanced efforts to restore much-needed transportation services to quickly get customers and communities what they need.
Recognizing the employees who do so much to support CSX and the communities where the railroad operates, CEO Michael Ward announced a personal commitment to make $1 million immediately available to the company’s Employees Disaster Relief Fund (EDRF), which provides short-term financial assistance to CSX employees and their dependents during times of dire need. Ward challenged fellow CSX employees to match his pledge, and individual employee contributions to the EDRF and American Red Cross will also be matched by the company.
CSX is also using its logistics expertise and resources, and relationships with nonprofit partners, to support community relief efforts. CSX deployed truckloads of water and ice in Northeast Florida and the Carolinas. In addition, the company is partnering with nonprofit organizations to distribute clothing and cleaning products and joining industry relief efforts.
