DETROIT, May 14, 2019 /3BL Media/ – Comerica Bank is partnering with Iron Mountain Incorporated and Re-Source Partners to provide consumers, small businesses and nonprofit organizations with free shredding and electronics recycling on Saturday, June 15, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Comerica Livonia Operations Center (39200 W. Six Mile, Livonia 48152).

Now in its 12th year, Shred Day helps consumers protect their identity and the environment while supporting those in need in our community.

“With over 31 million U.S. consumers affected by identity fraud over the past two years, the number of victims is staggering,” said Michael T. Richie, Comerica Bank Michigan Market President. “During that same time, the out-of-pocket fraud costs to consumers has doubled to $1.7 billion. This research continues to reinforce the importance of providing the community an opportunity to protect individuals, families and small businesses from identity theft and fraud.”

Since 2013, Shred Day in metro Detroit has led to securely destroying nearly 250,000 pounds of paper, which then was turned into pulp and recycled. The process of recycling paper into new paper products generates 74% less air pollution and uses 50% less water.

Small electronics weighing almost 15,000 pounds have been collected and securely recycled since 2016.

SHREDDING HUNGER

Comerica Bank also will help shred hunger at the event. Representatives from Gleaners Community Food Bank will collect cash donations and nonperishable food items. Over the past three years, food and monetary donations collected during Shred Day has provided on average over 3,300 meals per year.
