Citi Leads Global Diversified Financials Sector in 2013/2014 Dow Jones Sustainability Index
Citi Received the Highest Corporate Sustainability Assessment Score in the Diversified Financials Sector, Named to DJSI World and North America Indices for 12th Consecutive Year
NEW YORK, September 20, 2013 /3BL Media/ – Citi (NYSE: C) today announced that it has been named the Global Industry Group Leader for Diversified Financials in the 2013/2014 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), the first global index to track the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. This marks the 12th consecutive year Citi has been named to both the DJSI World and North America indices, and the first time Citi has been named a sector leader.
“I’m extremely proud of what our people around the world have done to make Citi a more environmentally and socially sustainable company through innovation and collaboration with our clients and stakeholders,” said Mike Corbat, Citi CEO. “That we have been named a corporate sustainability leader while supporting our clients shows that you do not have to choose between the two.”
The DJSI is part of the S&P Dow Jones Indices and uses the Corporate Sustainability Assessment developed by RobecoSAM, an investment specialist focused exclusively on sustainability investing. The Corporate Sustainability Assessment provides an in-depth analysis of financially material economic, environmental and social practices, such as innovation or supply chain management, climate strategy and stakeholder engagement and places a special focus on industry-specific risks and opportunities. Based on the Global Industry Classification System (GICS), RobecoSAM annually identifies the top company in each of the 24 industry groups.
Citi has been publicly reporting on its corporate citizenship and sustainability efforts since 2000. Some of Citi’s recent sustainability accomplishments include:
- Directed $44.4 billion to date towards activities that mitigate climate change as part of our 10-year, $50 billion Climate Initiative announced in 2007.
