CITGO Tees Off at Driving for a Cure Golf Outing to Help End Muscular Dystrophy

LEMONT, Ill., Oct. 3, 2016 /3BL Media/ – Employees from the CITGO Lemont Refinery, CITGO Petroleum Corporation and the Cicero Manufacturing Facility helped raise $500,000 for those battling neuromuscular diseases at the 20th annual Driving for a Cure Golf Outing benefiting the local Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) chapter. The proceeds from this event – the second-largest MDA golf outing in the country – will go towards clinical research and medical and rehabilitation costs for patients fighting muscular dystrophy.

“Daily tasks that we take for granted, like throwing a ball or walking up a flight of stairs, are major milestones for children with muscular dystrophy – milestones that might never happen without donors. Each dollar the MDA receives is wisely spent on lifesaving research and support for the families,” said Jim Cristman, vice president and general manager of the CITGO Lemont Refinery.

2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the partnership between CITGO and the MDA, as well as the CITGO Lemont Refinery’s 90th year of operations. In celebration of these milestones, CITGO will also be the presenting sponsor of the MDA Muscle Team gala, joining together with local professional athletes and children and families fighting neuromuscular diseases in Chicago on October 21 to raise funds for research into treatments and cures for these disorders. 

Since 2013, the CITGO Lemont Refinery has raised more than $2 million to benefit children and adults served by the Northern Illinois Chapter of the MDA. As the MDA’s largest corporate sponsor, CITGO has raised $200 million since the two began working together in January 1986 to help provide health care services and support for MDA families nationwide.
