CITGO Richmond Terminal Golf Tournament Benefits Muscular Dystrophy Association
Event Raised Highest Amount in its 27-Year History
RICHMOND, Va., June 6, 2016 /3BL Media/ - CITGO Petroleum Corporation’s Richmond Terminal hosted its 27th Annual Golf Tournament on May 26, raising a record-breaking fundraising total of more than $34,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) of Greater Virginia. Over the course of 27 years, the CITGO Terminal’s annual golf tournament has raised more than $850,000 for the MDA.
“CITGO has helped MDA Greater Virginia make significant strides in the support of more than 4,000 Virginians throughout the last 27 years,” said Andrea Shaver, Executive Director of the MDA Greater Virginia. “Funds from the CITGO Richmond Terminal Golf Tournament have enabled 75 children to attend MDA Summer Camp and numerous adults and children to attend life-enhancing medical clinics across the state, where they received access to special services and benefited from the extensive resources that MDA’s worldwide research program offers.”
MDA Summer Camper Westley Groseclose volunteered at this year’s tournament, along with his mother and brother. The MDA Summer Camp provides thousands of kids with muscular dystrophy and related muscle-debilitating diseases the opportunity to live beyond limits, enjoying horseback riding, fishing, swimming and more – at no charge to families, thanks to supporters like the CITGO Richmond Terminal. The campers have described their camp experience as “the best week of the year.”
The CITGO Richmond Terminal receives endless support from its suppliers, contractors, employees and friends to execute this annual golf tournament. Twelve years ago, the CITGO Chesapeake Terminal joined the cause and has supported the golf tournament every year since. The team effort is led by Bob Alvis, CITGO Richmond Terminal Assistant Regional Manager. Alvis was awarded the MDA Greater Virginia’s 2016 Hero Award during this year’s event, honoring his continued support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association for more than 27 years.
CITGO Petroleum Corporation and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) are celebrating a 30-year partnership that has raised nearly $200 million for the nonprofit health organization since the two began working together in January 1986. As MDA’s largest corporate sponsor, CITGO and its employees, along with its network of locally-owned Marketers and Retailers, will celebrate this milestone all year long through fundraisers and various community and employee events.
