CITGO Lake Charles Employees Adopt Families and Donate Gifts During the Holidays in SWLA
SULPHUR, La., January 22, 2018 /3BL Media/ - CITGO Lake Charles Refinery employees contributed monetary donations and gifts to local families during the 2017 Christmas season through Southwest Louisiana charities and CITGO Partner in Education, E.K. Key Elementary School. Employees raised more than $8,000 to purchase holiday presents and household necessities for the families.
Each year, CITGO employees demonstrate their commitment to the SWLA community by generously giving, especially to provide a joyous Christmas holiday for local families and residents of Boys Village. The 24 young men residing at Boys Village received $1,600 divided into gift cards for each child as presents, along with a holiday party, which consisted of a meal and fun games with CITGO employees. Boys Village residents truly appreciate and look forward to the annual party, as many of the young men are unable to return home for the holidays.
CITGO Lab employees have raised money for local charities since 2001 and continue this tradition annually by selecting organizations of their choice to support during the Christmas holiday. This year’s donations, totaling $600, was offered to E.K. Key Elementary School just in time for the holiday. The donated money to E.K. Key Elementary was used to purchase presents for some of the students who attend the school.
CITGO Lake Charles Refinery Vice President and General Manager, Art Klein, said CITGO employees truly participate in the spirit of giving during this special time. “Our employees are committed to serving this community through giving, which is truly the best way to celebrate the season,” Klein said.
For nearly 20 years, the CITGO Lake Charles Refinery Maintenance Department has provided families in the SWLA community with holiday gifts. They adopted four families for the 2017 holiday season. Three families were adopted through Partner in Education, E.K. Key Elementary, and one family was adopted through a joint venture between Catholic Charities and the Calcasieu Parish School Board Headstart Program. In total, 18 children and their parents were adopted. They were able to secure beds for the families, along with more than $5,800 to purchase the remaining beds, clothing, shoes, appliances, bedding, chests of drawers, toys, and gifts requested by the families. Fifteen beds total were provided to the adopted families through the CITGO Maintenance Department.
At CITGO, we understand that we operate in the communities where we serve as a privilege, not as a right. We promote and participate in a wide variety of social development programs, both locally and nationally. We also advocate the spirit of volunteering and encourage employees to embrace active roles in our communities.
