CITGO of Deckerville Supports Miss Michigan in Advocating for Children with Hearing Disabilities
Deckerville, Mich., May 19, 2015 /3BL Media/ – Miss Michigan KT Maviglia visited Deckerville High School and the neighboring CITGO gasoline station on April 22 to teach students about the causes and impacts of hearing disabilities as part of a program sponsored by CITGO Petroleum Corporation and CITGO Marketer Tri-Lakes Petroleum.
“I was diagnosed with sensorineural hearing loss at the age of nine, so it’s been a mission of mine to raise awareness for the impact of hearing difficulties,” said Maviglia. “I’ve worked closely with legislators to address undertreated hearing issues and improve the healthcare coverage of hearing aid equipment for children and now have the opportunity to continue sharing my story with the community because of CITGO and Tri-Lakes Petroleum.”
Following the presentation, Maviglia met with community members to offer advice for those struggling in similar situations and for photo opportunities at the Deckerville CITGO on 3440 Main Street. That same day, Deckerville CITGO also celebrated its Customer Appreciation Day, where it held hourly giveaways and provided five cents off each gallon of gasoline purchased at the station. There were additional opportunities to receive gift cards when customers checked in using the Club CITGO mobile phone application.
“As a member of the Deckerville community, it’s important to us to always find unique ways to give back to our neighbors,” said Keri Klaty of Deckerville CITGO. “That’s why, in addition to helping KT shed light on the impact of hearing difficulties, we are committing a portion of our sales to local nonprofits.”
CITGO has a long history of supporting health care initiatives, including the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), the Special Olympics and the United Way. In keeping with the company’s spirit of charity and community, CITGO Deckerville also donated a portion of its proceeds from pizza sales from April 22 to 26 to Deckerville Hospital and Eva’s Place, an organization aimed at providing a safe, supportive environment for victims of domestic and sexual assault.
