Ceres Joins Lawmakers, Businesses and Majority of Americans Demanding the Impeachment of Donald Trump
Ceres joins congressional lawmakers on both sides of the aisles and hundreds of business and investment leaders, trade associations, advocacy organizations, and the majority of Americans who are demanding that Donald Trump be impeached and removed from office.
Today’s vote by the House of Representatives in support of an article of impeachment for inciting last week’s deadly insurrection in the U.S. Capitol is “necessary for protecting national security, defending our democracy and ensuring that there is accountability and that justice prevails,’ said Mindy Lubber, CEO and President of the sustainability nonprofit organization. “We urge congressional lawmakers to move the impeachment resolution through the Senate immediately.”
The House passed a separate resolution last night calling on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. It passed largely along party lines with a vote of 223-205, after Pence issued a statement making it clear that he had no plans to invoke the 25th Amendment.
“The stunning, atrocious and deadly acts of violence incited by Trump demand an urgent response,” Lubber added. “There must be accountability for all those involved in the insurrection - justice must be served. All lawmakers must stand up to defend our democracy and protect our country and democratic institutions. Trump incited his loyalists to carry out an act of domestic terrorism in the U.S. Capitol in an effort to overturn the results of the U.S. presidential election. Once Congress votes to impeach and remove this dangerous person from office, we can begin the process to restore civility in our government and in our country.”
