CEO Costa Cruises Michael Thamm Discusses Sustainability Commitment to Stakeholders

Dear Stakeholders,

Costa Cruises is committed to sustainability. Despite the last two years of extreme challenges for our company, we have continued to put an enormous amount of effort into being a responsible global citizen. We are delighted to share with you some of the company’s achievements in this new edition of our Sustainability Report. It covers the results of the last couple of years and gives an overview on Costa Cruises’ path towards a sustainability-driven business and future.

Safety is our highest priority for our cruise guests and shipboard employees. Considerable investments were made in connection with our review and expansion of various procedures and the honing of the skills of our crew members. On the environmental side we continue to adopt a balanced approach prioritizing both the pursuit of innovative solutions and the systematic development of improvement actions aimed at reducing the impact we generate. For example, we have thoroughly reviewed our cruise routes and introduced a range of energy-saving measures on board. This has led to a substantial reduction in our emissions and is part of many ongoing efforts involving numerous projects and initiatives designed to reduceour environmental footprint, both at our destinations and at sea.

Our focus on the economic and social wellbeing of the local communities in which we operate worldwide strengthens our determination to guarantee effective and positive community stakeholder engagement. For this reason in the last two years we have enhanced our links with local communities and implemented programs fostering artistic and cultural heritage and traditions. At the same time we have provided support for a number of initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of people in need and for future generations.

We have also specifically included a section devoted to the Concordia accident with maximum transparency and comprehensive details of the emergency response and the salvage operation. Transparent communication about what happened was one of our priorities in drafting this edition of the Sustainability Report.

Special mention must be made of the invaluable contribution of our Costa people. Our ability to innovate depends largely on their input, their experience, their passion and their capacity, to truly make a difference. The great cultural diversity of our workforce is one of Costa’s distinguishing features. I would like to thank all Costa Cruises’ citizens and everyone who has helped us act every single day as proud ambassadors for Italian excellence worldwide.
