Celebrating International Women’s Day SafeMotos Launches Women Moto-Drivers in Rwanda
KIGALI CITY, Rwanda, March 8, 2018 /3BL Media/ -- SafeMotos, Africa’s most progressive ride hailing company, is pleased to announce in line with International Women’s Day the launch of the first 3 female SafeMotos Drivers in its driver network.
On this momentous day Barrett Nash, CEO and co-founder says “We are so proud to have these courageous, confident females who took the initiative to make the impossible possible and become a part of the SafeMotos team. The first women motor-taxi drivers in Kigali! Becoming a moto-taxi driver is a way for many people on a step towards economic empowerment and we firmly believe that this should be available to everyone in Rwanda not just men. We are now working with an additional cohort of 40 women, putting them through training over the coming months to launch a dedicated female moto-driver and customer product in Kigali in 2018.”
To make this happen:
- SafeMotos launched a US registered charity the SafeMotos Institute in 2017 and crowd sourced funding to allow for the sourcing and training of its women moto-taxi drivers;
- Hired Country Manager Miss Sandrine Nikuze to establish and run the program in Rwanda;
- Support from Bajaj Rwanda providing the motorcycle taxis; and
- SafeMotos is now developing a product which can specifically match female customers and drivers. Watch this Space.
