LOS ANGELES, April 3, 2018 /3BL Media/ – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized CBRE (NYSE: CBRE) with a 2018 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence Award for continued leadership and superior contributions to ENERGY STAR. This marks the eleventh consecutive year CBRE has earned ENERGY STAR’s Partner of the Year award.

“As the world’s largest manager of commercial buildings, CBRE has both a responsibility and an opportunity to help reduce the impact of buildings on the environment and, at the same time, create a positive effect on the communities in which we live and work,” said David Pogue, CBRE’s Senior Vice President, Global Client Care/Sustainability. “Driving sustainable real estate practices is a fundamental principle of our environmental leadership. The EPA provides critical tools that help us benchmark our portfolio, educate and train our staff on energy efficiency and provide consistently positive outcomes for our clients and their properties. We are very proud to once again be an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year.”

CBRE assists owners and occupiers with energy efficiency programs at properties it manages around the world and ENERGY STAR is a powerful tool driving sustainability. It has become an industry recognized symbol of highly efficient space; since CBRE first developed its environmental sustainability program in 2006, ENERGY STAR has remained the operational framework for advancing energy efficiency practices in the company’s managed portfolio

These efforts have produced strong results:

  • In 2017, CBRE benchmarked 6,197 buildings, representing more than 375 million square feet of managed assets, significantly more than any other third-party management firm;
  • The firm’s benchmarked portfolio received an average score of 80.3, its highest score to date;
  • Since 2008, CBRE has helped more than 1,200 buildings qualify for an ENERGY STAR label;
  • In 2017, CBRE experienced a 16.2 percent reduction in average normalized site energy intensity compared to the prior year, including a savings of 1,586,397,500 kBtu – the equivalent of reducing more than 849 million passenger vehicle miles driven in an entire year.

To further advance CBRE’s longstanding commitment to building energy efficiency and in support of the EPA ENERGY STAR program, this year the firm launched a new employee recognition program celebrating leadership in climate change management. CBRE Asset Services property management teams whose properties have achieved a 10 percent or greater improvement in their ENERGY STAR score will be awarded the CBRE Climate Change Champion Award.

This inaugural honor will be given to Asset Services teams at 22 CBRE-managed buildings across the U.S. totaling 4.2 million square feet. These teams’ combined efforts have contributed to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions totaling 10,188 metric tons of CO2e—the equivalent of reducing more than 24.9 million miles driven by an average passenger vehicle or planting 264,034 trees.

CBRE offers a wide range of sustainability initiatives under its environmental sustainability program, which includes global commitments in 11 key areas of environmentally sound performance. These include resource management, occupancy, communications and training, public policy and procurement. The program provides best practices and initiatives that strengthen CBRE’s own environmental commitment, reflect the best environmental practices in our clients’ properties, and provide vital training and education to CBRE professionals.
