“This is a wonderful recognition for the significant efforts and progress by many at Brown-Forman’s Casa Herradura in Mexico,” said Rob Frederick, Vice President, Director, Corporate Responsibility, Brown-Forman Corporation. “Given the importance of natural resources to making our spirits, environmental sustainability is absolutely critical to an enduring and thriving business.”The award is PROFEPA’s highest environmental honor and recognizes companies which have made a sustained effort in environment improvement and show a commitment to performance.
Casa Herradura was recognized for implementation of clean technology, environmental awareness and continuous improvement programs, and sustainability targets for water, water and greenhouse gas emissions.

Casa Herradura reuses 60% of the water discharge to irrigate internal agave nurseries and green area during the dry months. State of the art steam boilers turn waste into energy using biogas and biomass for fuel to generate fewer emissions. Overall, the greenhouse gas emissions have decreased 52% since 2009.
The Environmental Excellence Award is based on the voluntary program of Environmental Audits from the Mexican government, and is given to companies who show strong consistency in the extensive biannual onsite evaluations.
