If the corporate actions of the first quarter are any indication of the future, then business sustainability is truly the mindset for 2011 and beyond.  The nearing horizon of financial recovery is creating a  stronger incentive for business sustainability, and more companies and individuals are reaping the reward of applied sustainability concepts.  But to what end?  When will we know that we are finished?

Recognizing a shift beyond traditional measures of success, leading companies are seeking to refine their business sustainability strategies, improve internal and external communication, and bring cohesiveness to their organization by promoting greater stakeholder engagement.   Moving beyond the ‘green’ business project, the business sustainability pursuits of today’s leaders are focused on a business mindset shift as an end-state.   The mile markers in this continuous journey of pursued business sustainability represent the progress toward ‘sustainability’.  Defined as being embedded in the fabric of the organization, some examples might include:
  • Business sustainability actions elevating current incentives clearly defined across the organization.

  • Business sustainability actions accelerating both personal and business development
