Boston Mayor Walsh and Police Commissioner William Evans Celebrate 20th Anniversary of BNY Mellon’s YouthLeaders Program

Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh and Police Commissioner William Evans joined over 80 business and nonprofit leaders at BNY Mellon on September 9 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the BNY Mellon YouthLeaders program. Funded by the Arthur F. Blanchard Trust, YouthLeaders is an apprenticeship program that provides meaningful work experiences to Boston teenagers from low-to-moderate income communities, plus individual support to help them complete high school and enter college. More than $8 million has been invested since the program started in 1994, including over half a million dollars in college scholarships to 149 teens. Ninety-nine percent of YouthLeaders have graduated from high school, and 90% have gone on to college.
