(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) Chestnut Hill, MA - October 6, 2011 - Regardless of their functional responsibilities, managers today must understand corporate citizenship and how it maximizes their company’s performance. With globalization as the backdrop, the rights and responsibilities of business are rapidly changing, presenting new complexity for businesses.   To help managers meet these expanding demands, the Carroll School of Management Center for Corporate Citizenship at Boston College now offers the Corporate Citizenship Management Academy. This intensive weeklong program was created to provide corporate managers with a functional knowledge of corporate citizenship and an understanding of emerging trends and management practices that can help them advance corporate citizenship from wherever they sit within the company.   Participants completing the Academy earn a Certificate in Corporate Citizenship Management from the Carroll School. This innovative new program begins November 7 on the campus of Boston College where participants will:
  • Understand the changing operating environment for business and the drivers for good corporate citizenship

  • Learn fundamental corporate citizenship concepts and practices

  • Learn how to design and implement a comprehensive approach to corporate citizenship that aligns with business strategy and objectives

  • Acquire knowledge of technical tools, standards and frameworks commonly used to advance corporate citizenship

  • Enhance your management skills in critical areas including strategy, performance management, communication and organizational change.

Dean Andy Boynton and top faculty from the Carroll School of Management and other disciplines at Boston College will teach participants how to make valuable connections to their companies’ business strategies and identify ways to position programs to capture the attention of senior leaders and other important stakeholders. The Academy features key Carroll School faculty including Mary Ann Glynn, Ph.D., the Joseph F. Cotter professor and director of the Winston Center for Leadership and Ethics; and Michael Pratt, Ph.D., O’Connor Family professor and Ph.D. director.

“In today’s business environment, corporate citizenship is a critical aspect of maximizing company performance,” said Katherine V. Smith, executive director of the Carroll School of Management Center for Corporate Citizenship at Boston College. “This Academy provides a solid foundation in corporate citizenship concepts, practices and trends that will enhance key management skills and help deliver value to the company.”   The Academy is organized around critical questions that every corporate manager should be able to ask and answer if they are to lead effectively in the 21st century:
  • How will human impact on our natural world affect our ability to prosper in the future? How will it affect my company's ability to thrive?

  • What can my company do to maximize its positive environmental and social impacts and minimize negative impacts?

  • What are useful tools and frameworks for setting strategy and managing and evaluating corporate citizenship?

  • How can my company articulate clear corporate citizenship performance goals and report out on progress?

  • How can my company communicate effectively about corporate citizenship both internally and externally?
