Booz Allen Women’s Golf Networking Community Taking a Swing at Suicide Prevention
Who doesn’t love the perfect swing? For some, it takes years to achieve; and for that reason, stepping onto the tee box can be intimidating, especially if you do not know the game. The Booz Allen Women’s Golf Networking Community aims to solve that problem, offering women a comfortable learning environment for golfers at all experience levels, plus the benefits of networking with colleagues and leaders. For the past several years, all proceeds from the events benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (ASFP).
The Community organizes many events, including the annual Fall Clinic and Tournament that took place in Oct. 2016. Over 60 women registered for the opportunity to participate in small group lessons on putting, chipping, and drive, followed by a networking lunch and a 9-hole tournament. Each attendee—from the seasoned veteran to the person who has never touched a club before—had the opportunity to grow and nurture their network.
“I enjoyed this event because I got to meet so many talented, interesting women that I might not otherwise connect with at work,” says Kristin Sargent, senior associate at Booz Allen Hamilton, “We cheered each other on, helped each other improve, and we recognized others’ strengths in the game while playing together, just like we would at work.”
“Many women have been provided with opportunities to illustrate certain capabilities that we have never tapped before through their participation,” says Natalie Givans, senior vice president at Booz Allen Hamilton.
“I believe that being great at your job is important, however this community has helped me realize that there are more experiences that go into living a full life as a woman and as a professional,” said Givans.
Going into a new year, the community wants to continue to donate to benefit suicide prevention efforts as well as to provide new, fulfilling opportunities for women, one putt at a time.
