From Hackathons and the Data Science Bowl to the DC Innovation Center, the collaborative, mission-focused culture at Booz Allen Hamilton has set the firm apart, and the industry is starting to take notice.

This week, the firm was named to LinkedIn's 2017 Top Companies list, which celebrates the world’s most sought-after places to work. Carefully curated by pulling extensive data from more than 433 million members, LinkedIn’s Top Companies list analyzed data on job applications, views on companies' career pages, member engagement and retention of new hires. As a century-old firm with a start-up mentality, this acknowledgement by one of the leading culture and company data firms is a testament to how Booz Allen is transforming consulting in an increasingly digital world.

 “Employees come to Booz Allen because we empower them to change the world. They are not just creating a technology solution for delivery to a client – they’re helping the nation’s veterans get quick and efficient access to healthcare; they’re preventing human trafficking; they’re making sure cars can’t be suddenly controlled by hackers,” said Chief Personnel Officer Betty Thompson.   “We’ve created a culture that thrives on questioning current conventions and pushing the envelope of what’s possible and leveraging the power of diversity.  That means going beyond just celebrating diversity – we see a mix of viewpoints and life experiences as essential so we can bring our clients the very best solutions to their toughest problems. We’ve been solving those problems again and again for over a century, and the people of Booz Allen are why.”

Today, the firm is not only made up of management consultants, but engineers, software developers and product inventors. Gary Labovich, a Booz Allen executive vice president with a team of more than 5,000 engineers working across ten sites, talked with LinkedIn about how the firm has kept dispersed engineers engaged with “digital hubs.” The hubs offer engineers regionally accessible physical offices to gather, fix problems, or come up with new ideas. Labovich also discussed Booz Allen's internal training program, known as “Digital Solutions University,” where employees combine classroom training, web-based programs, and simulations to learn new skills they can use for the next assignment within the company.

With employees who are driven by the desire to make the world a better place, Booz Allen’s problem solvers work on some of the toughest challenges of our time and have developed cutting-edge solutions that have defied the status quo such as:

  • Inventing a device to find people trapped under rubble during natural disasters;
  • Tracking the spread of diseases by making drones talk to one another; and by
  • Helping the auto industry protect the connected car from cyber attacks

Booz Allen prides itself on being considered the employer-of-choice for tech-savvy professionals wanting to make everlasting change in today’s ecosystem.
