Booz Allen Gets Active in Support of People Affected by Multiple Sclerosis
Booz Allen Hamilton was recently awarded the Outstanding Corporate Volunteer Team award at the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) – Greater DC/Maryland Chapter’s Annual End of Year Celebration last month for its outstanding efforts supporting the chapter and people affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
The award recognized Booz Allen’s sponsorship of multiple teams in the April 2016 MS Walks. Under the leadership of Booz Allen Executive Vice President Gary Labovich and Vice President Curt Riggle, the firm brought together more than 150 total participants including Booz Allen employees, friends, family members (and one therapy greyhound) who took part in 17 walks. This engagement allowed Booz Allen to triple the amount of funds raised from the previous year.
According to Riggle, "Booz Allen is known for our Spirit of Service and for our employees' passion to make a difference in our communities. We are proud of the commitment to raising awareness of and funds to support those with multiple sclerosis."
Booz Allen does more than walk for a good cause. In 2013, employees worked pro bono for the NMSS- DC Chapter, reviewing the Board of Trustees’ operations for the Chapter, and providing strategic recommendations and implementation roadmap to jump start a higher level of Board performance and engagement. This review led to many changes, including the joining of the NMSS DC and Maryland chapters.
Chartese Berry, NMSS Greater DC-Maryland Chapter president said, "We appreciate all that Booz Allen has done to support us throughout our chapter re-alignment and transition. Their work has gone above and beyond our expectations and we're grateful to have such an amazing partner."
Booz Allen’s volunteer involvement with the NMSS Greater DC-Maryland Chapter continues to grow – the firm plans to again participate in 17 WalkMS events, a BikeMS event, and the chapter’s Ambassadors Ball in 2017. Additionally, employees will lend their consulting expertise to the organization at Booz Allen’s Jan. 2017 IdeasFest. During the week-long event, the Chapter will be the subject of a “rapid innovation” session; employees will explore ways the nonprofit can enhance its digital engagement and customer experience.
