Bombardier Promotes Employee Diversity on German Diversity Day
Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation took part in the second German Diversity Day at its sites in Berlin, Görlitz and Kassel.
June 4, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation took part in the second German Diversity Day at its sites in Berlin, Görlitz and Kassel. The Berlin-based Group with around 9,000 employees in Germany demonstrated its commitment to diversity with various initiatives. As a global company, Bombardier strengthens its competitive position through diversity among employees, which allows it to understand better the needs of its customers throughout the world.
After signing the Charter of Diversity in 2013, a business initiative under the patronage of the German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel, this year's activities at three of Bombardier's sites emphasised the company's commitment to recognising and harnessing diversity within and beyond the company for the benefit of society. To this end, Bombardier fosters a corporate culture characterised by mutual respect that values the intrinsic worth of each and every individual.
Just how effective such a philosophy firmly rooted in daily interaction can be is especially clear at the headquarters of Bombardier Transportation in Berlin, where people of 47 nationalities work together and steer the international business. The subject of diversity also plays an increasingly important role at its production sites, such as Kassel and Görlitz. The company draws on the varied skills and talents of its employees for the development and production of rail vehicles as well as the provision of services for customers throughout the world. Different ways of looking at a problem reveal new opportunities for innovative and creative solutions, thereby contributing to the company's collective success.
Various campaigns such as photography contests, team-building activities and discussion events on the subject of active diversity reveal how employees at these sites have breathed life into Bombardier's corporate values.
At the Kassel site, where Bombardier builds locomotives, employees of 20 nationalities gathered on June 3 for a photograph in front of a locomotive decorated with flags of their native countries – so they could “fly the flag of diversity”. This photo taken on Diversity Day is the first in a series of pictures at the Kassel site aimed at inspiring a lasting culture of diversity.
The importance of mutual understanding and respect was also highlighted in various activities at the Görlitz site, where employees from 15 countries work together. The “1st Görlitz Round Table” involved representatives from the workforce, works council, site management as well as representatives from a local school that works in close cooperation with the Bombardier site. This resulted in a lively and stimulating exchange of ideas regarding diversity in many aspects of daily life. A photo competition among employees on the subject of diversity and special menus in the factory canteen offering food from 15 different countries over several weeks added to the activities around Diversity Day.
